macOS Tahoe 26 Brings Journal App to Mac—and It Might Be Apple’s Most Personal Update Yet

Apple’s WWDC 2025 introduced macOS Ventura 13, and while the name might take some getting used to, the features are already turning heads. From a sleek new design to long-awaited app expansions, this update is packed with meaningful changes.

A Fresh Look with Liquid Glass UI

macOS Tahoe 26 brings another visual refresh, aligning with Apple’s Liquid Glass UI. Expect translucent widgets and a polished interface that mirrors the aesthetic of iOS and iPadOS.

Other standout features include:

  • Third-party Control Center actions
  • A new Phone app for seamless integration
  • The debut of Image Playground

But the most exciting addition? The Journal app is finally coming to macOS.

Journal App: A Long-Awaited Arrival

If you assumed Journal was already on Mac, you’re not alone. It launched with iOS 17 but remained exclusive to iPhone—until now.

While the mobile version had its perks, journaling on a phone often felt limiting. Typing on a small screen, managing media, and attaching files wasn’t exactly smooth.

Ever tried adding a PDF or concert photo to a Journal entry on your iPhone? It’s a hassle. That friction made it hard to build a consistent journaling habit.

Why Journal on Mac Just Works

The macOS version changes everything. With drag-and-drop support, adding photos, videos, and documents is effortless. Want to include a scanned itinerary or a gig video? Just drop it in.

And with a physical keyboard, writing becomes natural. Typing out thoughts at the end of the day feels more like journaling—and less like texting.

A Personal Shift in Journaling Habits

Before this update, I tried using a Notion template to track my thoughts. It didn’t stick. My journal became a mix of half-hearted workout logs and random notes—nothing meaningful.

The problem? Notion is my go-to tool for freelance work. Every time I opened it to journal, I’d get pulled into tasks and deadlines. It blurred the line between personal reflection and productivity.

Notion is brilliant for organizing projects, but it’s not ideal for introspection. I need a space that’s separate from work—a place just for me.

Could Journal on Mac Be the Answer?

With Journal now on macOS, I finally have that space. It’s clean, focused, and designed for personal use. No distractions, no task lists—just a blank page and my thoughts.

And the timing couldn’t be better.

Journal App Expands to iPadOS

Completing the rollout, Journal is also coming to iPadOS 26. That means journaling with the Apple Pencil is now an option—perfect for sketching ideas or handwriting entries.

It even inspired a new family tradition. I asked my six-year-old son to write a few words each week. Watching his handwriting evolve is something I couldn’t do on the iPhone.

This feature alone makes the iPad version feel special. It’s not just about convenience—it’s about connection.

Ready to Start Journaling Again?

With Journal now available across Apple’s major platforms, it’s easier than ever to start—or restart—your journaling journey. Whether you prefer typing on a Mac or scribbling on an iPad, the tools are finally in place.

I’m excited to give it another shot. This time, I’m hoping Apple’s thoughtful design will help me stick with it.

Will you try Journal on macOS or iPadOS? Share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear how you’re making it part of your routine.
