‘It seemed like a good time to switch perspectives’: Creator of prehistoric planets explains why David Attenborough is not involved in the Ice Age

If you’re like me, you’ve seen the ad. prehistoric planet: The Ice Age and jumped for joy. Then you went to the IMDB page and saw that there was absolutely no sign of David Attenborough’s involvement and your heart sank.

The British wilderness king has been the voice actor since the apple TV CGI docu-series debuted in 2022. In the second season, Attenborough even animated behind-the-scenes footage of each episode on camera. It can only mean that the almost centenarian had health problems, as social media often likes to believe.

Our “new period” is responsible for the voice change in Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age

“It’s a new series. We’ve done two with David and it’s a whole new era,” says Gunton. “We thought it would be an interesting idea to go in a different direction. Tom is obviously a pretty well-known animal storyteller at Apple, so it seemed like a good opportunity.”

“It was a great experience with him. He’s very enthusiastic and enthusiastic. He has a young son who is obsessed with these creatures. Tom had already spent a lot of time watching the show and apparently his young son was fascinated by the creatures. So it seemed like a good opportunity to switch to a slightly different perspective.”

At first glance, this is a completely correct decision. We cannot continually expect a nearly century-old national treasure to continue to produce the high-quality nature documentaries we expect. If I had to take anything back it would be the Ice Age and Jurassic creatures, which don’t really exist.

But Hiddleston doesn’t really satisfy me. Attenborough has an incredibly important role to play and everyone but him will automatically be seen. As much as I like it, Hiddleston’s voice isn’t exactly catchy, but that’s probably not because the Ice Age fauna is so close to our own (ie a little duller than usual).

For these two reasons, I would recommend watching seasons 1 and 2 again. prehistoric planet instead, but The Ice Age It’s far from a bad time… it’s just less Attenborough.
